social media Jul 03, 2018

So you want to take awesome Instagram photos?  Don’t we all!

Here are 5 easy ways to take Instagram photos like a pro even if you're not a professional photographer!

Pro Tip #1: Use Natural Lighting

We all know that one thing that can really ruin a photo - bad lighting.

So to get the best lighting, make sure you’re taking photos during the day and the best time to shoot is around dawn or dark to get soft shadows and light contrasts.

Use the light that comes in from a window and turn off any indoor lights to avoid any yellow artificial lighting.

The best days to shoot outside are cloudy days so you don’t have to worry about shadows, so keep all this in mind when you’re planning your photoshoot.

Pro Tip #2: Find Your Focus

Who likes looking at blurry photos? Probably no one.

You can avoid taking blurry photos by setting the focus. Just tap your phone screen on where you want it to focus before taking your photo! Yup, it’s that simple.

You can also adjust exposure by swiping up and down after you tap. If you have the Portrait Mode feature on your phone, it blurs the background and creates a really cool "bokeh" effect.

Pro Tip #3: Add some Negative Space

Give your feed some room to breathe by having less clutter and more space in your photos.

This is great for product shots, flatly and table settings taken from above. You can also use plain backgrounds to create this space.

Pro Tip #4: Go by the Rule of Thirds

This is something that the pros do and it’s a way to direct your viewers to the subject of the photo.

The first thing you have to do is turn on your grid on your phone and align the subject with the intersection points of the grid or directly in the center.

This creates, what they call, an energy flow in your photo.

Pro Tip #5. Learn How to Edit

So your photo may not be all that nice when you take it, but don’t worry there’s a lot of apps for that!

You can start with playing around the editing features in the Instagram app, you can adjust brightness, contrast, saturation, highlights and even add a filter.

If you’re ready to step it up a notch, you can try other editing apps like Snapseed or VSCO.

And those are 5 easy ways to take Instagram photos like a pro!
