Success Defined

the spark show Jul 29, 2019

In this episode of The Spark Show I’m talking about success - it’s something that everyone strives for but I feel like when I ask people what it means to be successful for them - they have no idea. Everyone wants success, to be successful, but most people don’t even take the time to define what success means them.

For me, success is fulfilling my BIG VISION. In Episode 12, I talk about getting clear on your big vision because it’s what drives you and your decisions moving forward. Success means I’m achieving ultimate freedom.

That means financial freedom - being able to meet my monetary and impact goals, physical freedom - being able to travel and be where I want, emotional freedom from guilt and pain - being able to experience joy and happiness.

Success is something that is an emotional state. I feel successful now, but that doesn’t mean I have everything I want now. As in, I know that in this present moment, I am moving towards what I want and I am already feeling the way I would feel if I had that success now. I’m not stressing about  "oh I don’t have that yet," because that puts you in a lack mindset instead of an abundance mindset.

I had to work a lot on my success mindset. I had to make sure that I was feeling successful now in the present moment instead of always striving for something I didn’t have.

Now, this didn’t just happen. It took a lot of work for me. I’ve read a lot of books, listened to a lot of podcasts, I did a lot of meditation, visualization, tapping and practiced affirmations.

There are a lot of awesome resources out there and I wanna share with you some of the ones I’ve used. For meditation, I use the Calm app, I love it so much and try to use it every single day. It really sets the tone for the rest of my day and it helps me not get affected by the negativity, especially on social media. It’s like priming your brain and mind before things happen so that you don’t react and let it affect you negativetly.

Visualization is something that I learned about from successful people and professional athletes. It’s about imagining your dream scenario in your mind already happening so your brain think it’s already happened and that’s reality. I took a mindset and mindfulness course from my friend Fernanda that’s all about rewiring the brain. It's neuroscience and basically the simplest way to explain it is that since our thoughts create our reality, if we think a certain way then our reality is created by that thought.

That’s why Olympic athletes, part of their training, is to imagine themselves crossing the finish line first, winning that gold medal! One, they have to believe that it’s possible for them and then two, they have to actually see it in their mind as something that’s already happened. So as far as my morning routine, after meditating, I do a visualization that what I want to happen has already happened in my mind and then I step into the FEELINGS of how I would feel if that had already happened.

There are a lot of super successful people - entrepreneurs, billionaires and athletes that attest to this being a part of their success. And some people even create a vision board so that they can see it as a physical reminder so it’s always top of mind. You hear people saying "this was on my vision board" and now their reality has matched up to that visualization.

So next let’s talk about tapping. I got introduced to tapping at an event and I loved it. I could just go on YouTube and there’s a lot of people who do tapping but my favorite is Brad Yates. He’s been doing it for a while and he has hundreds and hundreds of free videos. And what it is, is tapping certain points in your body while saying affirmations to program your body and mind. It’s really helped me when I go negative but again I try to do it often before it even gets there as a preventative measure.

And lastly, affirmations. Think of it like quotes, mantras or sayings that you use to inspire and empower you. But instead of just reading them or saying them randomly, you either listen, write or say them regularly, accepting them as your truth.

In the next episode, Episode 18, I’m going to be sharing with you some of my favorite success affirmations that you can listen to on a daily basis to help you prime your brain for a success mindset.

So some examples of the affirmations I use are…

“I am always at the right place at the right time.” This helps when I’m being impatient or upset that I’m not where I wanna be yet or if something happens that delays my plans

Another one is “I deserve to be successful." Oftentimes, we question our worthiness and sometimes subconsciously we don’t even believe that we deserve to be successful which actually blocks our success. So rewiring your brain that you deserve to be successful will help. And in the beginning, it might feel weird or silly but if you say something enough times, you will start to believe it and so will your subconscious and conscious mind.

I asked some of the influencers in my community to share what success means to them. Here’s what they had to say about success, which you can hear in the full episode below.

If you found this useful and valuable, please leave me a rating and review on Apple Podcasts - it would mean the world to me.

In the next episode, I’ll be sharing with you some of my favorite Success Affirmations that you can use to help you achieve that success mindset. Thank you so much for listening and I’ll see you in the next one!
